Abstract
Vitamin D during pregnancy is one of the main factors for the proper development of the
child. This valuable nutrient is involved in phosphorus-calcium exchange, regulation of nervous system
activity and support of reproductive function. Cochrane Review 1 provides evidence that vitamin D
deficiency during pregnancy is associated with dangerous complications.
Vitamin D belongs to the fat-soluble vitamins and unites all groups of substances. Vitamin D is
especially important for pregnant women, children in the first year of life, nursing mothers, teenagers
and people over 50 years old.
