Abstract
The evolution of English language teaching (ELT) has experienced substantial changes, especially due to swift technological advancements and novel pedagogical methods. This paper examines the historical context of English Language Teaching (ELT), detailing its evolution from old grammar-centric approaches to modern communicative and task-based learning paradigms. We analyse the influence of digital instruments, including online platforms, mobile applications, and interactive multimedia materials, on pedagogical methods and student involvement. The analysis examines the combination of artificial intelligence and adaptive learning systems for their potential to personalise education and improve language acquisition. The findings highlight the imperative for educators to adopt new advances while preserving a balance with fundamental linguistic principles. This study promotes a progressive approach in English Language Teaching that embraces technology improvements while cultivating critical thinking, cultural awareness, and lifelong learning in students. The domain of English language instruction (ELT) has experienced a significant shift in recent decades. The ascent of globalisation and the growing necessity for English competence have catalysed innovation and adaptation in the sector, resulting in the emergence of novel methods, technology, and approaches to address the varied demands of learners. This progression signifies a transition from conventional, instructor-focused methodologies to more student-centered, interactive, and technology-enhanced techniques.
